NEWS NICARAGUA: Renewable energy projects begin to operate. Due to the need for becoming free from the use of fossil fuels in Nicaragua, renewable energy projects have started operating; wind power is distinguished, so that the most important project is the wind farm Amayo, located in Rivas, which had an investment of more than 90 million dollars, and will have a production of 40 MW from 19 turbines of 2.1 MW each. The turbines were installed on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, at the foot of the twin volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas, in Ometepe Island. It should be noted that this project will work in its total capacity at the end of January. MEXICO: The Company SoWiTec conducts research for installing a wind farm. On recent days was pointed out that the company SoWiTec of Mexico has begun studies to determine the feasibility of installing a wind farm in the port of Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan. The estimated time for investigations is 24 months. This commitment happened after signing the letter that the company signed with the state government of Michoacan. In this way, a representative of the company indicated that the proposed wind farm would have an installed capacity of approximately 189 MW, and if studies are feasible, the wind farm would be installed within a period of 5 years. URUGUAY: The first stage of production of wind power starts. With the idea of diversifying the sources used for electricity production, the UTE recently inaugurated a wind farm, which will anually inject 2.800 MW to the national grid through 5 wind turbines. The wind farm is located in Sierra de Caracoles, in Maldonado. The main objective is to stop the dependence on hydrocarbons, in addition to variable power generation, since thermo and hydro sources generate electricity only for a few days. MEXICO: Planning the development of wind farms. The Mexican population is aware of the projections on the use of renewable energy, especially wind power, but in regions like Juchitan, which is located in the state of Oaxaca, the same region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and localities of the states of Zacatecas and Hidalgo have a significant wind resource. It is worth mentioning that the use of wind energy in Mexico, besides being of benefit to the environment, also works for social and economic development in regions where wind projects are carried out. In such a way, the well-known Isthmus region is the most feasible to develop these proposals for wind farms, since the area extends from the community of La Blanca through the region of Los Hueves. INTERNATIONAL: Renewable energy projects will be developed in bordering zone of Mexico/United States. Was released on December 28 that private investors and officials of Imperial County, located on the border of the State of California, U.S. to Mexico, concreted projects including power generation by solar energy, geothermal and wind power to produce up to 42 thousand MW daily. These projects have caused that the region is known as “the world capital of the renewable energy”. The projects are expected to start operating in the Imperial Valley during this year. CHILE: Company will conduct a research to install wind farm in Antofagasta. On recent days, it was announced that the company NORTH CODELCO of Chile will conduct an investigation with the purpose of determining the feasibility of developing wind farm Calama, same that would have a capacity of generation superior to 100 MW. The research will last 4 months, and as already mentioned, the objective is to validate the technical feasibility of wind resource in the area planned to develop the wind farm; they will also evaluate the rated capacity of the farm. BRAZIL: IMPSA plans the construction of three wind farms. Recently, the company IMPSA, of Argentine capital, has commissioned to the company IDOM the transcription of the projects of three wind farms that will be constructed in the state of Ceará; in the regions of Volta do Rio, Praia do Morgado and Praias de Parajuru respectively. The farms will deliver up of 400GWh of power each year. The studies consist on specifying the needs of cartography and geotechnical, environmental documentation, logistic project and basic projects of three farms, of the corresponding substations and of the necessary lines of evacuation. PERU: MEM granted temporary concessions for future wind farms. In recent days, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) granted the company HUAURA KALLPA two temporary concessions in order to develop studies of electricity generation with the installation of wind farms in the towns of Ica and Arequipa. The first grant corresponds to the next wind farm Tres Hermanas, with an installed capacity of 200MW, and the studies were realized in the districts of Marcona and Loma, departments of Ica and Arequipa. The second grant will be in the future wind farm Pampa Poroma, which also will have the installed capacity of 200MW, but they will develop in the districts of Marcona and Nazca, in the department of Ica. MEMBER'S PRESS RELEASE Caribbean: NuCapital Announces 30 MW Windpark Vader Piet Aruba’s First Utility-scale Wind Farm ORANGESTAD, Dec. 19: NuCapital, Incorporated is pleased to announce the financial closing of Windpark Vader Piet, N.V. in cooperation with Vestas Benelux B.V. of Denmark and Bright Capital Partners B.V. of The Netherlands.
