In recent days, it was informed that Brazil will hold, in the second half of this year, an energy auction aiming specially for wind power, promoted through EPE (Energy Research Company).

The president of that company commented that European and Brazilian companies have already shown interest, as well as the company Iberdrola and EDP Energias do Brasil. This will enable greater presence of companies in this sector, and to start unlocking the development and consolidation of Brazilian wind power.

At the same time, the president of EDP Energias do Brasil said that as there already are auctions for hydro and thermal energy, it is required to reserve at least some of them for wind power, and promote the establishment of wind turbine manufacturers, given that the country already has industries such as aerospace and engineering, which have the capacity to produce turbines for wind turbines and towers.

In this sense, the president of EPE noted that at the end of January they will turn in a study to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, containing the proposal to expand and strengthen the wind power sector in relation to the programmed auction, and to guarantee the interested investor by specifying the amount of the auction.
