MÉXICO: The Danish government stands out potential of wind energy in Mexico.

The Mexican energy sector is attractive for the government and the Danish companies, in particular the development of renewable energy as the wind, which is a market with a high potential in Mexico.

For this, the minister of Climate and Energy of Denmark, Connie Hedegaard, trusted to be able to open more trade between both countries in this matter with the visit of State of the Queen Margarita II and its husband the Consort prince Enrique, during the present month.

Denmark, said, continues looking for ways to boost and to develop even more renewable energy, for that which will dedicate around 2 thousand million pesos a year (a trillion Danish crowns), from 2007 at 2010.

ARGENTINA: A new step to enlarge the wind generation farm.

The intendant of “Pico Truncado”, Osvaldo Maimo, signed the Inscription Letter of the electric generation project of the wind generators 3 and 4 from the wind farm “Jorge Romanutti” that is a susceptible project of being framed inside the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) that forms part of the Kyoto protocol, using the approved methodology of “Renewable electricity generation for a grid."

PERÚ: It is planned to install a 240 MW Wind Farm in the north of Lima.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) granted a temporary concession in favor of Wind Energy to develop studies related to the activity of electric power generation in the future Wind Farm “Las Lomas”, which will have an estimated capacity of 240 megawatts (MW).

The studies will be carried out in the districts of Huacho and Chancay, of the provinces of Huaura and Huaral, of the department of Lima, during a two year-old term, according to a Ministerial Resolution published in the official newspaper.

CHILE: Ecopower plans to build a Wind farm of 140 MW in the eighth region.

Although it is still considered like a highly risky bet, the wind energy continues winning land in Chile. Until the moment to the system of environmental evaluation have entered projects of this type for about 600 MW of capacity.

To initiatives like Canela of Endesa Eco -the first one located in the Central Interconnected System (SIC) that is already operative -, or projects like “Punta Colorada” of the Canadian Barrick Gold or Totoralillo of the Norwegian SN Power, it is added now an ambitious project that in next three years search to add 140 MW of new capacity for the central area.

The portfolio of the firm also includes the development of energy projects in the regions of Coquimbo, "Los Lagos" and Valparaíso whose funds would be already committed.

PUERTO RICO: It is rejected Wind Farm in Guayanilla.

The violation to environmental laws and the attack against the Petroglyphs was two of the factors so that the Guayanilla’s mayor, Edgardo Arlequín and the municipal Legislature retired its endorsement to the construction of a wind farm in lands of “Barrio Boca” of that town. The project would have had a cost of $60 millions.

The wind farm would consist on 25 generators that would produce near 110 million kilowatts per hour for year and it would assist the energy demand of 20,000 families.

On the other hand, the spokesman of the “Comité Pro Rescate del Buen Ambiente” (Committee Pro Rescues of the Good Environment) of Guayanilla, Efraín Emmanuelli, had proposed that the lands which have been cleaned in the petrochemical complex of Peñuelas-Guayanilla known as the CORCO (Commonwealth Oil Refining Company) are used to establish this wind farm.

LATIN AMERICA: Atmosfair and German ProfEC cooperate.

German ProfEC GmbH becomes Cooperation-associate of the Berlin atmosfair gGmbH. Andreas Jansen, Managing Director of German ProfEC, in the future will be representing atmosfair in Latin America and the Caribbean. He will conceive and look for climate protection projects, which implement sustainable energy and energy efficiency technologies in the region with the atmosfair support. Climate protection, sustainability and benefits for the local population are in the center of the matter and have equal importance.

On March 27th, in Guadalajara, Mexico; it will be held the LAWEA’s General Assembly in order to elect our first board of directors.

The elected directors will have the responsibility of being the visible face of the association to the society and the leaders of the industry in the region. They will be the representation of the organization and will be in charge of formulating strategies regarding the fulfillment of our mission, to promote the development of Wind Energy in Latin America.
