NEWS VENEZUELA: The National Wind Power Generation Plan was presented to national authorities.
Recent reports indicate that Corpoelec (Corporación Eléctrica Nacional) plans to carry out the construction of wind farms in several states of Venezuela, highlighting the Chacopata one, in the Sucre state. This farm will have an installed capacity of approximately 24 MW, investing around $60 million. The project emerges as a result of an agreement between Pdvsa and Galp Energy, with the participation of Venezuela and Portugal. In order to develop the farms, they will install towers to measure the wind, so the first stage will take 24 months. However, they commented that the towers of the wind farm Chacopata could be installed by the end of the first quarter of the year 2009, once the permissions and location are defined. With this project, the national authorities are trying to comply with the prerogatives that Venezuela has signed for the Kyoto Protocol, taking advantage of renewable energy sources that are clean and allow the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases, in addition to reaching the goal of covering much of the local energy demand.
