CHILE: SeaWind Group will invest in wind farms in the country.

The general manager of SeaWind Group appointed that the English firm plans to invest in the development and operation of at least 3 wind farms this year, for a total amounting of 340 million dollars.

The first one is located in Region VIII and will have an installed capacity of 12 MW with an investment of US $25 million. The project has already obtained approval from the Chilean authorities, and its construction will start soon.

The second farm, known as “Hacienda Don Quijote” will be located in Region IV and will have a capacity of 26 MW, together with an investment of US $ 63 million. The firm plans to begin its construction in late 2009, if the approval of the project is obtained in the course of this year. He also said that they expect to gain support from investors of the mining sector, so that they meet targets for the use of conventional and clean energy.

Finally, the third is a project to be located in Region II and to have an installed power capacity of 100 MW, with an investment of up to 250 million dollars; its construction could begin by 2010. It is estimated that, once approved in March, it will be a high impact project to boost the generation of jobs and tourism in the area.
