PERU: MINAM announces diversification of its energy matrix for the coming years.

Recently, the Deputy Minister of Energy Development of the Natural Resources in the country, announced that they plan to diversify its national energy matrix with wind power in about 5 years, since it will represent a 20 percent of the country‘s total supply.

She also commented that, currently, they have temporary concessions that reach 500 MW; however, they are in the phase of prefeasibility studies to determine the wind conditions and appropriate areas for locating potential wind farms.

Thus, it is evident that the Law to Promote Electricity Generation through Renewable Energy is actually leading to the goal of diversifying the energy matrix, as well as leading renewable energy sources to become the third part of the total electricity generation in the country.

Several international bodies, such as the IADB, GTZ, among others, in line with the forecast of the Peruvian government, are promoting the Energy Innovation Competition, in order to fund projects submitted by the amount of up to 200 thousand US dollars.
