NEWS PANAMA: German company will invest in a wind farm.
The German company Wind 7 AG, through a strategic alliance with the Panamanian company Aerogeneradores Cerro Azul SA (AGCASA), will develop the construction of a wind farm with a total investment of $400 million US dollars, to be funded in 2 years. The so-called Panama-Atlantic Wind Project will be located in the vicinity of Columbus city, near the Panamanian capital, and will have a total installed capacity of 200 MW. However, the president of AGCASA reported that in its first stage, the wind farm will produce 30 MW through 15 wind turbines of 2 MW each, supplying an average of 10,000 households in the city. It should be noted that this strategic union, where Wind 7 AG bought 90 percent of the share capital, is the result of a prolonged-time initiative where they undertook extensive feasibility studies and formalities for obtaining permits from the authorities of Panama, and winning the approval of the Public Services Authority (ASEP). Panama aims to diversify its energy matrix, and wind power could represent between 10 and 20 percent of the electricity in the country.
