NICARAGUA: The first 4 MW of wind energy have been installed in the country.

As a successful outcome of the recently inaugurated Amayo Wind Farm, located in the province of Rivas, near the national capital, 4 MW of wind energy have been installed and connected to the national electric system for the first time in the country’s history.

This small initial contribution is part of a total of 40 MW, expected to be incorporated when the wind farm is fully operating with 19 wind turbines of 2.1 MW each, through a total investment of $90 million US dollars. Furthermore, the objective will be to provide electricity to more than 300 thousand low-income households.

The wind farm, carried out by the Wind Consitrium Amayo, licensed for operation of 30 years, received mixed capital investments by different companies.

Finally, Nicaraguan authorities were very optimistic about the future that the wind farm offers, since the production of 40 MW of wind energy will reduce the emission of 137 tons of carbon dioxide a year.
