NEWS BRAZIL: ENDESA showed strong intentions to invest in Rio Grande do Norte.
The Spanish company Endesa is evaluating the possibility to invest around $ 270 million US dollars to generate wind power in Rio Grande do Norte, entering as a partner in projects that are already operating. However, sources indicated that the company is interested in developing its own projects during the next five years. The objective would be to hold a portfolio of up to a thousand MW, mainly in the regions of Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. For the wind measurement studies, they have used the tool of the Brazilian Wind Map, which took a work of one and a half years, with the expectation of installing measurement towers in Rio Grande do Norte, and that the process of project development starts either in 2 or 3 years, in order to initiate and complete the construction of the wind farms by 2014. At the same time, they stressed that for Endesa to continue forward with their projects, it is imperative that the federal government provides guarantees of interest and clear dates for tenders to purchase energy, together with a reasonable fee for selling energy, by signing a clear understanding agreement.
