NEWS CHILE: New wind farm financed by a Spanish company.
The Chilean company Renova Energy, with majority shares owned by Spanish capital, has submitted to the National Environmental Commission (CONAMA), a project to build a wind farm in Region V, through an investment of $ 32 million US dollars. It is the “Las Dichas” wind farm, in Casablanca, which will have an installed capacity of 16 MW through 8 turbines with a generating capacity of 2 MW each. To this end, it is estimated that the works will start in late 2011: first, there will be construction, and second, the operation will start, and finally, the closure. The company's goal with this farm is to supply the Central Interconnected System (SIC), for transporting energy through its lines from the north to the southern island of Chiloé. At the same time, sources reported that the firm is evaluating the possibility of investing $200 million dollars in two new projects that would generate a total of 120 MW, to further exploit the wind resource in the Andean country.
