CUBA: Cuba and Spain exchange on renewable energy.

Cuba and Spain began an exchange on renewable energy, looking for a better mutual understanding in this area and to assess business opportunities, which will reveal the latest technologies of Spain, one of the world leaders in the sector.

Juan Arenas, president of the Spanish section of the bilateral committee, pointed out that Spain has made great efforts in the development of the wind energy, and mentioned the possibilities of cooperation from Cuba and his country in this field, as both nations are enjoying abundant and strong sunshine and winds.

Also, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Zaragoza, Manuel Teruel, noted the importance that the companies of the two nations work together in the development of renewable energy.

BOLIVIA: Government and private companies interested in generating wind energy.

The Interim Superintendent of Electricity expressed his hope that, “in short terms, a pilot plant of 1 to 1.5 Megawatts (MW) is installed in the country”.

The interest of the Electricity Transportation Company (TDE) in the building of the first generating plant is advanced, but "they pointed to the feasibility of implementing a policy of incentives," says the official report.

The wind map that shows the country's potential to generate alternative energy with the wind power, shows the behavior of winds that travel at an average speed of 0.9 to 5.0 meters per second (m / s).

CHILE: Chilean Congress approves project that promotes renewable energy

The Chilean Congress passed a bill to boost the use and investment in non Conventional Renewable Energy (ERNC). With this the government seeks to diversify the poor country's energy matrix.

"In order to ensure the effective materialization of these energy projects between the years 2010 and 2014, shall be the duty of 5 per cent. After that date, this percentage will increase gradually by 0.5 percent a year, reaching 10 percent in the year 2024, "said the Ministry of Energy in a statement.

ARGENTINA: “Comodoro” promotes European investment in wind power.

The Centre of Energy, the Patagonian Entrepreneur Foundation, and the organization WECO coordinated actions for the creation of a "test site" of machinery related to the production of renewable energies and mainly wind power.

There will be a lot of work in gathering information; training and education, with the aim of attracting towards the region, those companies that today are leaders in Europe in renewable energy and wind specifically.

PUERTO RICO: Door opens for wind mills.

The mayor of Guayanilla, Edgardo Arlequín, left the door open for changing its position against the wind farm project proposed by the company Windmar Renewable Energy for the area of “Punta Verraco”.
The mayor criticized the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) by endorsing the project and for doing nothing to remedy its environmental impact.

As part of the millionaire project, which would sell energy to the Electric Power Authority, 25 wind turbines of 1.65 MW in “Punta Verraco”, “Cerro Toro” and “Punta Ventana” will be installed.

MEXICO: Renewable Energies: Plan B to lower prices.

The energy reform should not be exclusive to Pemex (Mexican Petroleum). It requires opportunities for private investment in renewable energies such as solar, nuclear, biofuels, wind, said president of the National Chamber of Manufacturing Industry.

The industry leader urged to modernize and make more flexible the energy sector in order to increase the country's competitiveness, especially on the issue of energy prices.

Maron Manzur demanded political actors to wager by the energy and work reforms, "on which we must work to give economic viability to the country".

ARGENTINA: Project for a 50MW wind farm.

The German Renewable Energy Project developer, ABO WIND, is carrying out the assessment and development of the project for a wind farm in the area of the Municipality of Villarino, near to the town of “Mayot Buratovich”. The wind farm will be constituted by 25 aero generators with 2 MW each one.

PERU: Meteosim Truewind Selected to Produce Wind Atlas of Peru.

The consortium formed by the meteorological consulting firm Meteosim Truewind, based at the Barcelona Science Park, and Latin Bridge consultants has been selected to produce a wind atlas of Peru. Under the sponsorship of the World Bank, the project is set to prepare a survey of Peru’s wind resources so that the competent authorities and teams of experts there will have at their disposal reliable information and innovative, cutting-edge technology. Training will also be offered to local experts to build future wind farms to harness this clean, renewable energy source in their country.

The deadline for abstract submission for WIND LAWEA EXPO 2008 is extended!

Thanks to the interest and good response that has aroused the call for papers for WIND LAWEA EXPO 2008; and, due to the express request of a important number of interested people, we have decided to extend the deadline for submitting abstracts 4 more weeks. We are sure that this new date will allow us to receive many other interesting works which would be reflected in the high quality of speakers and presentations.

On March 27th LAWEA will elect its first board of directors

We have already received the first postulations to conform the first board of directors of LAWEA starting from the next March 27th. Very soon we will inform who will be those that empower the wind energy in Latin America.

The elected directors will have the responsibility of being the visible face of the association to the society and the leaders of the industry in the region. They will be the representation of the organization and will be in charge of formulating strategies regarding the fulfillment of our mission and to promote the development of Wind Energy in Latin America.
