MEXICO: Investment of U$S300 million for wind power generation.

In the State of Tamaulipas, a wind power project was approved to supply and deliver electricity to around 43 municipalities. The goal: to reduce expenditure on electricity consumption.

The investment for this project, which amounts to about U$S300 million, provides for the installation of a generating plant in Los Vergeles, San Fernando; and, is also expected to join this statewide initiative to the municipality of Reynosa.

With the development of this wind energy project, as part of an environmental/self-supply initiative of the municipal public sector, the government of Tamaulipas expects to receive cost savings in energy consumption by 5%, savings that, for the involved municipalities, could range from 5 to 15%.

The Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC), along with the Environment Agency for the Sustainable Development of Tamaulipas, established a condition of conducting a public hearing, where the scope of this project can be divulgated.
