During April 17-19 of this year, the V Summit of the Americas was held in Port Spain, the capital of the Caribbean country Trinidad and Tobago. It had a wide presence of presidents, chancellors, and ministers of all American countries.

Throughout these three days, the meeting was strengthened by the positive tendency of presidents to treat the issue of energy cooperation seriously and highly-committed among Latin American countries and United States.

The Brazilian president warmly urged the present leaders to keep commitments made with regard to energy and environment, recalling that Latin America has all the natural conditions for energy production, safeguarding the basic rights of citizenship.

For its part, the Ecuadorian president, stressed the potential of a self-sufficient Latin America in energy production, and this is possible without the need to pollute, not forgetting that there is the only one planet for all people.

In this vein, the U.S. president stressed the importance of energetic collaboration and cooperation, in which the countries of the region all together can tackle climate change through the development of renewable energy projects.

Stressed the search for consensus on the models of renewable energy, based on the importance of considering energy as a vital resource for the development of people, the start of an energy transition to cleaner energy systems, accessible and sustainable, the reduction of carbon emissions through a system of energy security, based on research, development, knowledge and technology transfer and marketing of healthier cleaner energy.
