Renewable energy suppliers could disappear by problems with ENEE.

The National Electricity Company (ENE) has no confidence that small generators will satisfy the short and medium terms demand for electricity in the Honduran region; that is why Elsia Paz, who is the chairwoman of the Honduran Small Producers of Renewable Energies Association (AHPPER) and an entrepreneur of renewable projects, commented the obstacles that they are currently experiencing, their challenges, and the reason of the possible disappearance of the Energy Body.

The AHPPER is a private initiative that tries to diversify sources of electricity generation, but after several years of trying to operate 480 megawatts, they are now on the verge of disappearing, and without the hope of selling their products to the National Electricity Company (ENE). The vision of AHPPER is to be able of recreating, in renewable energy and energetic efficiency, the way forward to ensure clean, safe and economically efficient energy in the country.

The main problem with the ENEE, is that the state does not have the capacity to operate a high-performance technical project and seeks to amend the Law on incentives. It demands to be interconnected to the nearest substation to sell energy; however, these substations have become obsolete. Instead of placing more, the state has expanded its capacity and there are now unrealistic distances where the company loses a transmission. And in order to connect to the substation, it is necessary to travel 80 kilometers and each one needs an investment of 30 million dollars.
