It is necessary to use renewable energy: Molina

During the forum “Climate Change”, in the state of Tabasco, on the past May 22nd, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2005, Mario Molina, made a careful invitation to use and promote manufacturing plants to produce renewable energies, mainly wind and heat.

Molina called to invest “much more” in new technologies, even though they are currently more expensive, and in big energy projects other than fossil fuels.

He named Spain as an example, and said that they are already investing in new technologies, because the European Union (UE) establishes, as a law and requirement to its members, that a percentage of their energy is renewable, and they count with heat and wind energy plants.

“In Mexico, we have a lot of sun. We could do that. It is still expensive, but it will not last for long; in the close future it will be profitable. Then, the idea is to start with these projects”, he said.

Respecting wind energy to generate electricity in Mexico, he said that it was a good example, though he regretted the delay in launching these projects.

“If we would have been clever in Mexico, we would have started years ago. We would have our own technology and would manufacture turbines. We want more turbines, but we have to wait 4 years because the demand is enormous. It is something that we missed; it would have been a perfect investment”, he said.

“If we do not do something, we are leaving our future generations a planet full of problems. They will not be able to have a living standard like the one that we have, and that is so unfair”, he assured, and said that we cannot blame institution for the environmental deterioration, since this issue is everybody’s responsibility.

Also, in this forum, they held topics about climatic changes, pollution diminution, the protocol of Montreal of United Nations was mentioned, and that he will participate in a debate for the energetic reforms in Mexico.
