NEWS

VENEZUELA: The coast will be used to build wind farms.

Venezuela has great potential to produce wind power, thanks to the nearly 4,000 km of shoreline that limit the terrestrial north boundary of the South American country, which are enough for the construction of wind farms, generating then, one of the cleanest kinds of existing energy.

There is a current project in this country that plans to build four wind farms located at: the peninsula of Guajira, in Pueblo Nuevo, Los Tanques, Araya and Nueva España by 2013, that will join to the one that will be finished soon in the peninsula of Paraguaná.

ARGENTINA: An investment for wind energy laboratory at Antarctica Argentina will be made.

The wind energy laboratory planned for Antarctica will have an investment of almost 3 million dollars and will allow an important energy saving, since the intention is to “feed” the Esperanza Base (where the turbines will be installed) at the beginning, and to extend to the rest of the bases in the future.

However, Comodoro will bring experience and infrastructure for the construction through a group, which also will present the project of the installation of a wind base in the Antarctica Argentina, looking forward to produce clean energy in that sector of the planet, which obviously will bring great economic and labor benefits.

URUGUAY: The bidding for the installation of wind farms will be started.

On the past June 6th, was announced that the Industry and Energy Ministry of Uruguay will call for tenders for the installation of wind farms in the first half of 2009.

It is important to mention that this country counts with approximately the same wind than hydraulic potential; therefore, it will have the power of 1.000 MW. But before the bidding, the “wind map” must be completed, which is planned to be finished during the beginning of 2009, said the national director of energy.

According to the Spanish company Energías Renovables del Biezo (ERBI), El Salvador has enough potential to develop a wind farm. This is the reason why the company plans to install the wind farm in this region by 2010.

This farm will be constructed with 30 towers that will generate up to 2.1 MW each, with a total of 63 MW, and that would bring benefits for around 45 thousand people in this Central American country.

Also, it is spared that this expansion will be working by the next year, and meanwhile they are considering installing a couple of wind turbines that would generate a total of 1.700 KW additional to the 2MW that the current turbines produce. This stage of the wind central would be running in the sector Alto Baguales, which requires an investment of around 4 million dollars for its development.
