PERU: The first renewable energy auction will be held in the country

Finally, the Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru (MEM) announced that they will hold the first auction of renewable energy, for a total capacity of 500 MW in the fourth quarter of this year.

The objective of the MEM is to put emphasis on allowing the entry of wind projects and a lesser number of geothermal projects. Thus, they intend to attract investors in time until the auction so that they consistently identify the location and offers of their wind projects.

It will be the MEM, next to the Oversight Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), who prepare the groundwork for the auction, thus complying with the terms of Legislative Decree No. 1002, with provisions on investment promotion for the generation of electricity through renewable energy.

For its part, the Osinergmin will be responsible for the auction process and award of projects.
