NICARAGUA: AMAYO Project; the Wind Energy as fundamental axis of the Energy Development of Nicaragua

The AMAYO project is born thanks to a group of entrepreneurs known as consortium AMAYO; it is integrated by the Nicaraguan investors: Energía Eólica de Nicaragua (ENISA) -Wind Energy of Nicaragua- and the consortia Centrans Energy Services, INC, of Guatemala, and Arctas Capital Group L.P., of Houston, Texas.

ARGENTINE: Wind power project at La Rioja.

A wind power program was presented in La Rioja; however, this place has been investigated for 19 years and even though they already have a good impression, the nation’s answer is still missing in order to proceed with getting the funds that are required for the investments in this farm.

The wind resource in La Rioja is considered to be in a similar level than the one in La Patagonia, in terms of the production of clean energy.

CHILE: Barrick will upgrade its wind farm.

In past days, an extension of the wind farm was announced, with the installation of eight new wind turbines in the area of Punta Colorada, with which they pretend to extend the energy production from 20mW to 36mW.

This action will be carried out by the mining company Barrick, same who has filed an Environmental Impact Statement so the extension of their project can be approved.

HONDURAS: Wind energy, an option to face the crisis.

During the last years, the Honduran country has had serious issues with energy, and in these moments, any clean energy project offers better development options.

Meanwhile, a project that can help this situation would be Mesoamerica’s, which will beneficiate the communities of Ojojona and Santa Ana thanks to the 100 MW that will be produced.

CHILE: Endesa will extend the wind farm Canela.

In past days, the company ENDESA announced the extension of the wind farm Canela.

The project, designed as Canela II, will add 40 turbines to the 11 that already exist. This extension will be carried out by Acciona Wind Power, by providing wind turbines and the necessary equipment; this was announced by the energy company ENDESA.

CHILE: “Totoral” Farm will have the biggest wind plant in Chile.

The project, located in the region of Canela, on a surface of 40 hectares chosen by SN Power to install the biggest wind farm in Chile, could have a power of 45MW.

This structure will be an important energetic supply for the country and will reduce the emission of 65 thousand tons of CO2 per year.

CHILE: They plan the construction of a wind-solar farm in Tortel.

In recent days, the mayor of Tortel announced the interest of the community to build a wind-solar farm, which would guarantee clean energy for at least 20 years.

The mayor said that it would generate approximately 500 KW, around 5 times more than what is currently produced in this community, and would successfully satisfy the demand of electricity.

CHILE: Mining Company plans to operate renewable energies.

The company CODELCO announced that they are evaluating the possibility of developing renewable energy projects, with the purpose of assuring the energy supply, due to the energetic issues that this country is suffering.

They are studying the places to install 20mW wind farms that could be extended all the way to 40mW.

ARGENTINE: Evaluating viability to install a wind farm in Necochea.

During the past days, an agreement was signed in order to study the wind feasibility in the areas located near to Las Grutas. They have programmed to build up to 12-15 wind turbines, and if the capacity of the wind farm allows extending the number of turbines, they will install them.

ARGENTINE: Analyzing the possibility of installing wind turbines in San Julian.

In an attempt of analyzing the possibilities of installing wind turbines, they held a presentation in order to search for productive alternatives for San Julian in front of a large number of entrepreneurs of the NRG Patagonia Group, specialized in wind energy; they are in the stage of manufacturing a wind turbine of 1500 kW that has been internationally certificated.

LAWEA will participate in the 2° Andean & Central America Energy Congress 2008

LAWEA keeps working on its wind energy diffusion and defense activities around the region and will be present in the 2° Andean & Central America Energy Congress 2008 to be held in Bogota, Colombia on next July 9 – 11.

LAWEA will be speaker in the ACA – Forum of Renewable and non Conventional Energy, on July 11th.
