NEWS CHILE; Wind Energy Production; a change for electricity generation The Chilean government is trying to change the ways of electricity generation, and wind, solar, geothermal and biomass energy production could contribute to the South American country economic and energy growth. ARGENTINE; Argentine will develop wind turbine after signing agreement. Following the agreement that the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Nation and the provinces of Neuquen and Rio Black and municipalities Neuquina Plaza Huincul and Cutral Co signed, the development of the first wind turbine designed in Argentina was announced. The energy company Edelaysen from Chile, who belongs to the SAES group, is planning to launch an expansion to the wind farm in Alto Baguales, which includes the addition of 2 new turbines, each one with a capacity of around 660kW that would be installed by the next year, aiming to balance the electricity demand and avoid unpleasant long-term situations. MEXICO; Investments in Solar and Wind Energy The northern regions of Mexico have being attractive options for investments by foreign capital for the installation of solar and wind power plants, mainly in states like Sonora and Baja California. ARGENTINE; The government will install two wind turbines In order to make strategic trials, the government will acquire two -1- KW low-power turbines. Those turbines will be placed in 2 significant places; the first one in Lavandero, a control pint of the park San Guillermo, and the second in the Elizondo Mountains of Fertile Valley. MEXICO; Meteosim TrueWind does a new wind map of the state of Jalisco Meteosim TrueWind has used the system MesoMapTM to produce a high-resolution wind map for 200.000km2, covering the whole state of Jalisco, México. MÉXICO; Iberdrola continues constructing a 100MW wind farm in Oaxaca. Iberdrola is constructing a wind energy farm in Oaxaca with an investment of $100 million dollars, which will be ready in 2010 to produce about 100 MW. They relate to the fields in Oaxaca as the best ones in the world, a potential that Mexico has wasted for too long. LAWEA has been invited to give an oral presentation in the Technological Forum on the current Wind Energy in Argentine and the Southern Cone “Winds of the Future”, presented by the Cámara de Industria y Comercio Argentino-Alemana. The event will be held in the Abasto Plaza Hotel, Buenos Aires, July 23rd, 2008.
LAWEA keeps working on its wind energy diffusion and defense activities around the region and attended the 2° Andean & Central America Energy Congress 2008 that was held in Bogota, Colombia during the past July 9 – 11.
