A Renewable Energy Development Centre will be established

On the past July 4, the government of Chile, through its Minister of Energy, announced the creation of a Renewable Energies Center for Chile and South America, in order to emphasize the importance and need of developing renewable energies.

This project will work together with the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) countries, without forgetting the policies and development programs, innovation and research in the field, and work as a liaison adapting and diffuse such innovations and technological developments.

The secretary of state express that this measure is taken due to the concern over the current ecological situations such as the greenhouse effect, global warming and also because the cost of conventional energy are becoming more expensive.

The region of Chile and its environs have great potential in terms of renewable resources: in addition to the water wealth, are geothermal, biomass, bio-gas, bio-fuels, and wind power, tidal and solar, a reason to be seized. That for is important not only receive these advances, but also start their own investigations and piloting technologies to adapt to climatic, geographical and cultural characteristics of Chile.

It is important to mention that Chile already adopted the Law on Not Conventional Renewable Energies. Mainly in the field of bio-fuels, mixtures were authorized and exempted from paying tax; the research on different alternatives are approved and technical cooperation programs with Brazil are successfully moving on .
