DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Regulation approval would encourage renewable energy projects by U.S. $ 1500 MM

In recent days, the regulation that will govern the law enforcement 57-07 on Renewable Energy was approved. This will allow investments in renewable energy in the Dominican Republic, which prompted the chairman of the National Network for Business Support of the Environmental Protection (RENAEPA) to applaud this action and catalogued it at the same time as beneficial because it would lead to an investment of US$ 1500 million..

NICARAGUA: Wind energy production by December this year.

The Wind Consortium Amayo, proposes a project that intends to stop relying on power generation based on bunker, the proposal includes the generation of 40 MW based on wind turbines that are placed on the Isthmus of Rivas and is estimated to be installed later this year.

The turbines will be located in an area of 36 hectares and it is estimates that its generation will reduce US$30 million in the oil bill.

MEXICO: Spanish companies could invest in Coahuila.

On July 23, it was announced the possibility that two Spanish companies could invest in the city of Torreon, Coahuila, and such information was provided by the director in Mexico of the Promotion Institute of the Chambers of Commerce from Spain.

It is expected an investment around US$25 million in an initial stage of the project and will generate 500 direct jobs. The company would invest in the field of wind power, particularly in the manufacture of towers.

CUBA: Achieved the expectations of wind farm.

Thanks to the encouragement that Cuba makes for alternative energy sources, it now enjoys such benefits. After the building and commencement of work 15 months ago of its small experimental wind farm located in Los Canarreos, in the northeast Island “de la Juventud”, has reduced its consumption of fossil fuels and also contribute in benefit of the environment.

The facilities avoided the consumption of about 500 tons of fuel oil for electricity generation.

ARGENTINA: The Government of Chubut in association with GREENWIND.

The government of Chubut and GREENWIND Belgian Company signed an agreement whose purpose will be the research and development process of wind energy in Chubut.

Basically there are two stages: the first one refers to the analysis of the alternatives to install the wind farm, and eventually granted a close location to the company to do the work required and develop its motion. While the second phase consist of managing the installation of a factory of steel towers for the wind turbines in the industrial park Trelew.

PERU: Announced 37 wind power projects.

Currently, there are 37 projects relating to wind energy in Peru, which could generate together 5,525 MW. This capacity would aloud to satisfy a large portion of the energy demand in this South American country.

All these plans have been submitted within 2 years, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), and have been intended to settle in several areas of Peru, especially in the northern plains and deserts, because the winds have sufficient strength to be used in electricity generation.

PERU: More Wind Power projects studies approved.

It was announced that the Ministry of Energy and Mines, granted temporary concessions to the company Peru Energía Renovable (Peru Renewable Energy) in order to perform studies on future wind farms that will be located in south and north regions.

One of the concessions, which envisage a period of 2 years, will conduct studies in the future Wind Power, Marcona 1 Central, which will produce 100 MW in the regions of Ica and Arequipa.

URUGUAY: Fortuny could invest US$ 100 million in wind power farm.

After studies carried out by the Spanish fund in Uruguay and received environmental certificates, Fortuny the Spanish Company would be willing to invest more than US$ 100 million in various projects. Although, keeps waiting for the Uruguayan government to make the necessary incitement to licit.

The company already has two leased properties in Cerro Largo with physical capacity to build 55 wind turbines that would generate an output of 50 MW.

CHILE: Wind Power Central at Laguna Verde will perceive an investment of US$ 47 million.

Chile has launched an important wind power project, with an investment of US$47 million, which will be built in Punta Curaumilla at Laguna Verde and consist of 12 turbines of 2MW power each.

The CORFO (Chilean Economic Development Agency) supported the initiative. The 24 MW to be produced will be injected to the Central Interconnected System (SIC) through the substation of the Central Laguna Verde and will supply 10 thousand homes.
