Argentina: Request of $ 150 million pesos to develop wind farm.

It was announced last August 13th that the government of La Rioja ask the Argentina Nation $ 150 million pesos as financial backing, this to develop a wind farm which will work to solvent the agricultural activities in the North region of the province.

It is planned to have running the first turbine of the 46 scheduled to be installed at the site the coming year and is expected to add up to 150 equipments to help with an output of 300 MW.

BRAZIL: Argentinean Company invests in wind farms.

On August 25th was announced that the company IMPSA Argentina will invest US$ 750 million to build 10 wind farms in the Brazilian country, the generators will provide 218MW of power.

These wind farms are located in the municipalities of Bom Jardim and Agua Doce belonging to the state of Santa Catarina, located south of Brazil, and is expected that the parks will come in operation at the end of next year.

Argentina: Company would add 2 wind power generators.

Recently, an olive company announced that will buy 2 wind turbines in order to bestow them to the wind farm that the government of La Rioja plans to build north of the province and contribute to the strengthening of energy supply to productive sector of the zone.

This company is Argentina’s Frio Industries, which confirm directly to the governor of La Rioja the initiative to provide 2 turbines of 2.1 MW for the wind farm that will begin to build in the area of La Puerta. It will be invested about $ 7 million dollars for the wind turbines and could be purchased in Germany or Denmark.

Mexico: US$209mn dollars in transmission facilities.

Last Friday, August 22 it was announced that the Mexican power company, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) entrusted to the consortium ISOLUX the contract for construction of transmission in the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz related to wind power generation along the lines of “open season”.

It is important to announce that the contract was transferred to the consortium formed by: ISOLUX Mexico, ISOLUX engineering, electricity Medellin, EDEMTEC and PIDIRELYS; same group that submitted a bid of U.S. $ 209mn in the works.

Argentina: “Santa Cruz” explores the installation of a wind farm.

In the city of “Puerto Deseado”, belonging to the province of Santa Cruz; authorities in the area met with representatives of ABO WIND Renewable Energies SA, a German company dedicated to the installation of turbines for wind energy production.

The main goal of that meeting was explaining how the German Company works, also, to know if the town is interested in installing a wind farm in a medium term. This requires the town to be connected to the national electricity grid, and “Puerto Deseado” fulfill with the provision.

Mexico: It was announced a project to generate wind power in the state of Tamaulipas.

On August 18 the governor of Tamaulipas announced the project to produce wind power, which will be installed on the northern border of the state, although not yet specified the city.

The state authority said that power generation by wind is a project that has been structured over the recent 3 years and was presented to the Border Governors Conference that was held recently in California. At the meeting they delve into the topic of the environment which is pushing the use of clean technologies.

Argentina: Opened a turbine generator of wind power.

On August 14 in San Juan was installed a wind turbine by the Canadian Company BARRICK, equipment that has a capacity to generate 2MW of power per hour, it measured 60 meters tall and cost $9 million dollars. The German turbine was installed at an altitude of 4,100 meters above sea level, and will work in extreme weather conditions endured winds exceeding 200 km per hour.

It is considered the first step in the construction of a wind farm in Punta Colorada, with an area of 150 hectares, with 18 wind turbines and ability to generate up to 36 MW, which will be incorporated into the Central Interconnected System (SIC), in the Fifth region of Chile that would supplying electricity to Pascua-Lama mining project and Veladero.

PERU: It will be build a wind farm in Paracas.

With an investment of $ 240 million dollars the company IBEROPERUANA plans to create a wind farm that will have 240MW of power in the town of Paracas. It was announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mines on August 23 during the inauguration of a wind antenna in the Park San Andres in “La Puntilla” complex.

The construction of the park will take at least two years, however the company plans to conduct an initial stage of project generation. Which would consist of speed up the installing of the turbines in December, so rapidly will generate 22MW, and then to measure the strength of the wind and decided if they will proceed with the construction of the entire wind farm.

LAWEA had an active presence in the XIX International Energy Saving Congress

Organized by the “Colegio de Ingenieros Mecánicos y Electricistas del Estado de Jalisco (CIMEJ)”, the XIX International Energy Saving Congress was held in Expo Guadalajara, 20-22 August.

LAWEA participated as exhibitor and speaker at this important event. LAWEA show a presentation about the trends in the Latin American Wind Power market with the aim to continue working in popularization, education and promotion of this renewable energy trough the region.
