Argentina: Opened a turbine generator of wind power.

On August 14 in San Juan was installed a wind turbine by the Canadian Company BARRICK, equipment that has a capacity to generate 2MW of power per hour, it measured 60 meters tall and cost $9 million dollars. The German turbine was installed at an altitude of 4,100 meters above sea level, and will work in extreme weather conditions endured winds exceeding 200 km per hour.

The turbine will generate electricity for a mine, since it is a way of generating alternative energy which began working in the mine Veladero, the quarry is operated by the same firm BARRICK and which is located in the border area between Argentina and Chile, in Cordillera de Los Andes and about 450 kilometers from the capital city of San Juan.

It should be noted that the new machinery BARRICK, consists of a generator model D8.2, which was provided by the British company SEAWIND and manufactured by the German company DeWind and required an investment of $ 9 million, and is considered the first step in the construction of a wind farm in Punta Colorada, with an area of 150 hectares, with 18 wind turbines and ability to generate up to 36 MW, which will be incorporated into the Central Interconnected System (SIC), in the Fifth region of Chile that would supplying electricity to Pascua-Lama mining project and Veladero.

At the opening of the turbine were present the governor of San Juan, the manager of the corporate products of SEAWIND, and the president of the South American region of BARRICK.
