COSTA RICA: Two wind power projects with an investment of $ 110 million.

In recent days it was announced that the consortium formed by the companies ENERWINDS of Costa Rica and JUWI will work together in two wind power projects, one in Bagaces located in the Guanacaste province and the other one in San Jose.

It should be noted that Guanacaste wind project could starts electricity generation on January or February next year, when 28 of its 55 wind turbines are settle, but the project that corresponds to San Jose would be ready for 2010.

MEXICO: Continues the building of a wind farm in Baja California.

The U.S. Company SEMPRA, continues with the construction of a wind farm in the vicinity of the communal land (“Ejido”) JACUMÉ; with this, the project will be developed on both sides of the border of Mexico and the United States and will produce 250 MW of energy.

This will begin with the wind farm in the vicinity of the Rumorosa and will have an initial cost of USD$ 400 million. However, the American company looks for the acquisition of the wind energy project in development “Energia Eolica Rumorosa”, to be implemented in conjunction with the company CANNON POWER from San Diego, California.

CHILE: Methanol manufacturer will build a wind farm.

Recently the company Methanex announced its incursion into the development of renewable energy, with the construction of a wind farm that will have an investment of approximately $ 5 million dollars and is expected to become operational next year; this plant will have a wind generation capacity of 2.3 MW. This initiative comes in response to the Argentine lack of gas that used to feed this region.

This wind farm will be built on the lands of Magellanes, because it is considered feasible by the climatic characteristics of the area.

PANAMA: Spanish Company could invest in Panama on wind power.

It has been reported through the manager of the Electricity GeneratIon Company (EGESA) that the Spanish company IBERDROLA will begin with measurements of the strength of the wind in the Central American country to install a wind energy farm.

The Iberian company signed a memorandum of agreement with EGESA to explore some places where it can develop projects in electricity, because the country can make use of wind to generate alternative energy.

ARGENTINE-BRAZIL: Argentine Wind Turbine Manufacturer was open in Brazil.

On September 6 was inaugurated a Wind Turbine Manufacturer plant of the Company Metallurgic Industries Pescarmona (IMPSA - Industrias Metalurgicas Pescarmona Sociedad Anonima) in Recife, capital of the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The initial investment was USD$ 145 million. The open event had important guests invited: the Argentine and Brazil president and the chairman of IMPSA WIND.

That plant is located in the port complex of Suape, has an area of 27 hectares and was built in eight months and has expectations to be expanded for the year 2010.

ARGENTINE: Small wind turbines will be installed in the Port of San Julian.

The president of the INCRO Company and the agent of the municipality met to finalize details on the eve of the placement of a wind turbine in the area of Cape Curious. The equipment will consist of a 1KW power capacity, which is a result of a past meeting where the agreement was signed.

It is worth to mention that this company is involved in a rural energy project in the province of Chubut, where it will install 1500 low-power turbines.

MEXICO: CFE launches bid to build Oaxaca I.

In recent days was announced the international public bid of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to build the wind farm Oaxaca I, through a scheme of independent power producer, without requiring forums or conferences in which they discussed about reforms of the energy bill. The wind farm will be build in a period of not more than 533 calendar days, with a rated generation capacity of around 101 MW.

The terms under which the international public bid was announced include ensuring that at least 25% of the capital is Mexican.

MEXICO: Installation of new rolled rings manufacturer for wind industry.

In the state of Nuevo Leon FRISA Group will install a new factory, a company dedicated to the Forging and Ring Rolling for the wind industry. The construction will have an investment of USD$ 250 million; this was announced by the head of safety and environment department of the company.

To be 100% completed, the plant will have 700 employees and 500 indirect jobs. The machinery will arrive next October and its installation will take months, so it is expected to begin manufacturing the rings in next July.

MEXICO: Project for the building of a wind farm in Tamaulipas.

The Tamaulipas state has infrastructure program which considers the first phase of the Urban Park “La Escondida”, the plan aims to promote culture of environmental technologies and renewable energy, leading to safeguard a protected area and prevent pollution in cities like Reynosa.

Among the most important works on this program is to build a wind farm with a capacity of 39 MW, which will generate clean energy and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, this way Tamaulipas will become the second state to produce renewable energy.

ARGENTINA: Investment of $ 10.6 million dollars in renewable energy.

On September 4th it was confirmed that the company ENERGY DEVELOPMENT ARGENTINA LIMITED (EDALE RE, Inc.) has signed a contract with the U.S. Company HELIX WIND Inc., for the purchase of small wind turbines.

The contract provides for the purchase of at least 1500 units within three months.
