News COSTA RICA: Two wind power projects with an investment of $ 110 millions. In recent days it was announced that the consortium formed by the companies ENERWINDS of Costa Rica and JUWI will work together in two wind power projects, one in Bagaces located in the Guanacaste province and the other one in San Jose. It should be noted that Guanacaste wind project could starts electricity generation on January or February next year, when 28 of its 55 wind turbines are settle, but the project that corresponds to San Jose would be ready for 2010. The Guanacaste project will be able to produce in its first phase of 25.2 MW from a total of 49.5 MW referred to therein. Initially it was referred to an investment of $ 83 million for this project, but circumstances relating to the prices of raw materials such as steel, copper and concrete, all this added with the devaluation of the dollar against the euro caused the cost increase to $ 110 million, although this situation does not put in risk its funding. The venue where the wind farm will be installed is surrounded by beautiful landscape in the hills of the canton of Bagaces, Guanacaste Wind Project signed a contract with ICE to operate the plant for 20 years and after that it will be transfer to the institution. Initially, the group SARET of Costa Rica was linked to JUWI and ENERWINDS with a 44% shareholding. However, last May signed an agreement to sell its shares to ENERWINDS as part of a strategic decision.
