CHILE: Investment of $ 300 million dollars in wind farm.

With the outlook of building the largest wind farm in Chile, the company Ecopower will invest $300 million dollars, a wind farm which must operate by the end of 2009.

Within expectations, the construction of the park will begin in the first half of 2009 to start operations by the end of that year. Eventually, if there are no setbacks, the park would be the largest electricity generation through wind power, but will have a capacity lower than the project Talinay (500 MW).

CHILE: Analyzing the use of wind power in Antarctica.

Researchers from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Magallanes and army delegates are working in a scientific project which consists of installing a hybrid system with a category of wind -diesel at the Bernardo O´Higgins Antarctic base.

It is envisage that for the next two years in addition to the measurements of wind in the area, the decision related to the installation of the turbines at the site will be establish. The project aims to save 25% in the consumption of oil.

MEXICO: Solar and wind power could be included in energy reform.

On September 9, energy and environmental organizations demand to the Senate of the Mexican Republic, to incorporate in the energy reform, alternative sources such as solar and wind power.

Among the proposals that were handed to the chairman of the Senate Energy Committee, are, solar, wind, bioenergy, geothermal, mini-hydro and wave.

MEXICO: Communal Land Owners and Investors have signed agreements for wind power generation.

Under the program: Fund for public and private investment in the Rural Property (FIPP), the directors of Spanish companies EURUS and Communal Land Owners of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (Oaxaca) signed agreements for wind power generation, which will have an investment of USD$500 million, this happened last September 11 at the Agrarian Headquarters in Mexico City.

The main beneficiaries from this project are the 500 Common Land Owners of 2 thousand 500 hectares of La Venta Village, Municipality of Juchitan de Zaragoza in Oaxaca.

ECUADOR: Wind Power Generation project driven by 3 municipalities.

It was announced that the towns of Ibarra, Antonio Ante and Otavalo, through their aldermen, banded together to impulse a wind power generation project, it will be a premier project in Ecuador and would have an investment of about $ 22 million.

It was also reported that the resources for the project will be derived from the surplus of oil, moreover, that are only pending for the studies carried out by a private company to reach each municipalities.

CHILE: Expanding the wind farm of Punta Colorada.

In past days was approved the project for extending the Punta Colorada wind farm by COREMA, at Coquimbo region. This way, will be built 18 wind turbines having a total power generation of 36 MW, with a total investment of 70 million dollars.

It is expected to conclude the work of expanding the park in a period not longer than 8 months, and the generation will be delivered to the Central Interconnected System (SIC).

CHILE: Spanish Group will invest 1000 million dollars for development of renewable sources.

The Spanish company ENER-RENOVA has planned to develop several wind power projects in Chile, which in total, would generate 500 MW and together will assume an investment of 1,000 million dollars.

The company plans to install a wind farm in the IV region, zone of “Los Vilos”. It will need 130 million dollars and will generate 66MW for the Central Interconnected System; it is known as “La Cachina”, will have 33 wind turbines and will be installed in an area of 900 hectares.

NICARAGUA: First wind farm is almost finished.

In Nicaragua, the first wind power project is under construction; it will generate 40 MW, will cost around 95 million dollars, and will have 19 wind turbines in total, in an area of 400 hectares.

It is hoped that it will be finished by November, since currently has 4 turbines already installed, and each of them will produce 2.1MW. The Wind Farm is located in the 128th kilometer of the Southern Pan-American Highway, in Rivas. Basically, the execution of the project began on last December, with the excavation and construction of the bases for the turbines; though, the Amayo farm started to be planned since 1999, when they carried out the wind resource assessment.

ECUADOR: Renewable Energies in the first green airport of the world.

With the construction of the first green airport in the world, in the Galapagos Islands, it was announced that the idea is to minimize the environmental impact in the islands, mainly by the use of wind power and solar energy, in addition to the use of non-harmful materials.

The company in charge of the construction is CORPOTACION DE AMERICA, Argentina. The inauguration of the airport is planned for July 2009, and will have a total investment of 20.4 million dollars.

MEXICO: Taxes exemption for wind power investments.

It was learned that the town of Monclova unanimously approved the taxes exemption on the Acquisition of Buildings to the company SPECO WIND POWER for a total of one million 700 thousand pesos, this Friday, Sept. 12.

Additionally, the exclusion of paying license fees for construction was agreed, by the concept of sale and donation for the company that will build wind towers for exportation.

CUBA: Wind Farm endured the winds of Hurricane Ike.

Through a communiqué, it was announced that the wind farm in eastern Cuba weathered the onslaught of the winds caused by Hurricane Ike, however, remained with no communication for some time of their surrounding communities.

The wind farm stand winds of up to 200 km per hour, though control house presented some damage.
