MEXICO: Communal Land Owners and Investors have signed agreements for wind power generation.

Under the program: Fund for public and private investment in the Rural Property (FIPP), the directors of Spanish companies EURUS and Communal Land Owners of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (Oaxaca) signed agreements for wind power generation, which will have an investment of USD$500 million, this happened last September 11 at the Agrarian Headquarters in Mexico City.

The main beneficiaries from this project are the 500 Common Land Owners of 2 thousand 500 hectares of La Venta Village, Municipality of Juchitan de Zaragoza in Oaxaca. These agreements will be beneficial use of parcel, which is being used exclusively for the benefit of other parties, all of which will be valid for 30 years.

It should be noted that currently 170 are properly documented and signed and the remaining 330 are in the process of implementation, in which the Agrarian Headquarter participates as a manager and general counsel of the peasants. In all cases there is an agreement that founded in the Assembly of the Common Land Owners.

The program FIPP was born as a response to the demand of farmers for the development of their land, to allow them a better living. The general attorney has designated the land, which is associated with interested investors for projects to the potential of the land according to the following classification: 81 centers for development projects and urban facilities, 162 tourists 286 agricultural; 73 industrial, 27 for services and 17 of infrastructure.

On the other hand, have cataloged 15 public and private investors:

Federal Electricity Commission, Institute for Housing of Colima, Almacenadora Mercader SA, AICO, Tehuahtepec plantations, Grupo Minero, inclusive of the Rio Lerma SA of C.V., Materials Villarreal S. A., Falcon Homero Martinez, Hermanos Garcia Picasso, Jatro Biofuels, Grupo Santos, Eurus, Ron Tlalixtac and Tierra Cafe.

It was mentioned that the participation of farmers in these projects is common agreement among their leadership and in no case shall contemplate the sale of their properties.

The agrarian general attorney mention the importance of promote agriculture productive projects throughout the country, by virtue of which 52% of the national territory is property of Common Land Owners.

Of this percentage, 80% are forests and jungles, of which two thirds are coastlines, and 74% of biodiversity.
