Costa Rica: New Wind farm for Costa Rica

Costa Rica will increase its Wind Power generation with the construction of a new plant in the county of Guanacaste (north Pacific) that will have 50 megawatts of capacity. It is expected that this wind farm, whose construction and operation for 18 years were awarded to a Costa Rican-German consortium, be in complete operation in December 2009. The first 50% capacity of this wind farm is going to be operating at the end of 2008.

Panamá: There are 16 proposals for wind energy projects

At least 16 proposals to design projects of wind energy have received until the moment the Authority of the Public Services (ASEP). These projects involve the generation from 19.5 up to 600 megawatts. Although the interest in developing these projects exists, it doesn't mean they have license to operate, they are waiting for a provisional license.

Panamá: The lack of wind measurement is the obstacle for wind power generation

In Panama there are 16 applications of investment in wind energy, some already presented from 1999. The disadvantage is that the wind speed has never been measured here, in contrast with Germany and great part of Europe where the measurements began seven centuries ago, from the times of the mills of wind. It has been the great obstacle to begin the wind energy generation in Panama.

Brazil: Spain offers to Brazil experience in wind and solar energy

Gerardo Díaz-Ferrán, Spain’s employers president, offered to Brazil the experience of his country in clean energy, like wind and solar generation, and he encouraged a bigger Spain participation in the biofuels sector. In clean energy, Spain has an extensive practical experience, it is the case of wind and solar energy. In 2006, 9% of the electricity consumed in Spain came from the wind energy.

México: Santa Catarina (Nuevo Leon) will build a wind farm

Santa Catarina will be the first municipality of the Mexican Republic that will have wind energy. Dionisio Herrera Duque, Santa Catarina´s mayor, announced that it will be the first municipality at national level that is going to have “private energy”. Santa Catarina will save 23%, of the million 700 thousand pesos by month that pay for electricity.
This project also includes a thematic museum for the municipality.

The wind farm will be completed in November of 2008. Eight generators of 2.5 MW each one will be installed.

México: The CFE studies wind power generation in the east region

Jesús Eliseo Ramos, Divisional Manager of Federal Commission of Electricity CFE, said that both, the Secretary of Economic Development and CFE, carry out in Puebla State, some explorations of wind potential for energy generation.

It pointed out that they are carried out technical studies especially in Oriental region, which has an interesting wind potential, and the results have been good. There are even already some investors of German origin interested in the project.
