COSTA RICA: The wind farm in Guanacaste will receive additional investment.

The company Ecoenergy International PLC, the main investors, announced additional 9.2 million dollars for wind turbines in Guanacaste, project that will produce 50 MW of energy and will cover the demand of 60 thousand families.

The company announced the addition of this amount due to the need caused by variations in the prices of raw materials and devaluation of the dollar against the euro, which is expected to swing the total cost up to 110 million dollars.

ARGENTINA: Wind Farm Antonio Moran, first one to enter the National Electricity Market.

It was published on past September 23rd, that the wind farm Antonio Moran, which belongs to the Sociedad Cooperativa Popular Limitada de Comodoro (SCPL), was admitted as an agent for the National Wholesale Electricity Market; this happened through the resolution 1.064/2008 of the Energy Secretary, under the Ministry of Federal Planning, Public Investment and Services of Argentina.

This event is important because the wind farm becomes the first wind generator agent in Argentina, and it is enabled to deliver energy to consumers.

ARGENTINA: It will be installed a wind farm with private investment.

Recently, it was announced that the company Vestas of Denmark will invest 50 million Euros for the construction of a wind farm that will be able to provide of 50 MW to the National Interconnected System (NIS); it will count with 14 turbines and will be installed in the region of Necochea.

The Project already has the approval of the municipality, and this company will sell energy to the country. The company already has a site, in which they are installing a wind measuring sensor that certificates that this is the right place; the land was hired by the Commune.

HONDURAS: The President opens a Wind Power Project.

On the past October 1st, the president of Honduras inaugurated a wind power Project with a capacity of 100 MW, promoted by the company Solar Energy and Wind Resource, placed in Santa Ana; with this, they expect to reduce the thermal energy dependence.

The farm will operate in Cerro de Hula, viable location due to strong winds.

MEXICO; Announced construction of wind farm in Tecate.

In recent days, the governor of the state of Baja California announced the construction of a wind farm, which will be installed in La Rumorosa, in Tecate, and will need an investment over 250 million pesos.

Besides having an installed capacity of 10 MW, at an estimated annual production of 27 thousand MW hour, the wind farm will be installed in an area of 42 hectares, property of the government and could benefit more than 40 thousand families.

PERU: Regulations enacted to promote renewable energy are ready.

In recent days, the general director of electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) announced that the rules of the Law to Promote Electricity Generation through Renewable Energy are ready and could be published in the next few days.

The manager explained that the Ministry of Energy and Mines will establish that renewable energy must have a participation of 5% in the national electricity consuming during the first 5 years, and in the future could be increased by the same MEM.

PANAMA: Spanish company will invest on wind farm.

On the past October 3rd, in Madrid, Spain, the company FERSA announced that they have obtained the last permits necessary for the construction and exploitation of the wind farm in Panama: Toabre, with power of 225 MW and an investment over 225 million Euros.

These facilities will provide the 9% of electricity consumed in Panama. The farm will be constructed in 2 phases and construction will begin in the second quarter of 2009. They have planned that by the end of 2010, the first phase will be already working and that in 2011 the second stage will begin.

CHILE: Ancud, the first municipality to use only renewable energy.

In past days, the company EcoPower, associated with the spanish company Enhol-Chile plan to build a wind farm able to produce 140 MW; it is hoped that for the year 2010 it will be working. It will be located in the rural sectors of Mar Brava and Guapilacuy, at the northeast of the municipality of Ancud, where it will need an area of 1,400 hectares and an investment of 300 million dollars.

Ancud is a city that belongs to the province of Chiloé, so this project results to be very ambitious since according to the projections, in 2010 Chiloé will not only be able to be an island that will survive with only clean energy, but also could export a part of the electricity produced by wind power to different cities in the continent.

BRAZIL: Wind farm in electric power auction.

On the past September 30th, in Sao Paulo, the Chamber of Electric Power Marketing (CCEE) auctioned 3.125 MW hour of energy for an approximated amount of 30.644 million dollars. It will be delivered to buyers after the year 2013.

Inside this auction there is a wind farm, also a hydroelectric one and 47 of thermal origin.

HONDURAS: Wind Project could reduce electricity costs.

The agreement that was signed by the National Electric Power Company (ENEE) and the company Mesoamerica Energy, aims to generate 100 MW in a period between 24 and 36 months. It will consist on an investment of around 270 million dollars, after negotiations that were realized in recent days.

The contract covered the price of kilowatt per hour, same that could be lower than 10.75 cents to 10.3 cents, in addition to the installation of 60 turbines of 1.5 MW each.
