COSTA RICA: The wind farm in Guanacaste will receive additional investment.

The company Ecoenergy International PLC, the main investors, announced additional 9.2 million dollars for wind turbines in Guanacaste, project that will produce 50 MW of energy and will cover the demand of 60 thousand families.

The company announced the addition of this amount due to the need caused by variations in the prices of raw materials and devaluation of the dollar against the euro, which is expected to swing the total cost up to 110 million dollars.

It should be noted that the wind farm started being constructed in February 2008, and will generate 49.5 MW. It is expected that for February 2009, the first stage will be finished and therefore have a production of 25.2 MW.

As mentioned before, the contract stipulated that the energy produced by this wind farm will be sold to the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), in charge of the distribution.
