NEWS CHILE; Ancud, the first municipality to use only renewable energy In past days, the company EcoPower, associated with the spanish company Enhol-Chile plan to build a wind farm able to produce 140 MW; it is hoped that for the year 2010 it will be working. It will be located in the rural sectors of Mar Brava and Guapilacuy, at the northeast of the municipality of Ancud, where it will need an area of 1,400 hectares and an investment of 300 million dollars. Ancud is a city that belongs to the province of Chiloé, so this project results to be very ambitious since according to the projections, in 2010 Chiloé will not only be able to be an island that will survive with only clean energy, but also could export a part of the electricity produced by wind power to different cities in the continent. The director of the company EcoPower said that the project is based on 3 stages; the first one is the study of the wind, same that brought positive results not only for this region, but also for other zones. The second one consists on designing the farm, stage that is being executed currently. And the third one is the construction and operation. In the other hand, the general manager of EcoPower announced that currently they are evaluating the possibility of installing 3 other plants, both in the North and South. It is worth mentioning that the company has experience, since for the year 2012 they expect to inaugurate a bigger wind farm, Talinay, which counts with 243 turbines with a total installed capacity of 500 MW and will need an investment of 1.000 million dollars. |
