Nicaragua: Central American Bank will finance a wind farm in Nicaragua.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) granted a credit for 71.2 million dollars to the Wind Consortium Amayo, S.A. for the construction of a Wind Farm in Nicaragua for energy generation.

The construction of this Wind Farm with 39.9 MW of capacity will be in the Rivas State, 161 kilometers to the Southwest of Managua, and will be in charge of the Wind Consortium Amayo, S.A.

This power plant will help partially to cover the energy demand in the country and to reduce the deficit in the offer that is cause of blackouts of up to five daily hours.

Argentina: Wind Energy developers launch projects for U$S450 M.

National and international companies aim to Argentina for the development of wind energy, an industry in the middle of growth that needs of new actors due to the current demand.

In next five years $450 Million dollars will be dedicated in wind power expansion. Contrary to the European countries which have a leadership position in renewable energy, the Argentina just begins the road toward the development of wind facilities that promise to generate a new industry that will demand qualified employment and export possibilities.

In this way, several companies are developing different projects. Although, at the moment just exists the capacity to install 300 MW, since the industry closed 2006 with 25% of growth.

Panamá: Spanish company invests in Wind Power generation

Of the 16 applications for wind generation projects registered in the National Authority of the Public Services, eight belong to Enrilews, S.A., to generate a total of 3400 megawatts in different points of Panama.

However, José Ma Roger, company's president, clarified that the idea is to develop part of the requested megawatts first, and to continue when the system requires it.

The 80% of the project would be financed with the support of the banking, and the 20% remaining with capital of the company. The cost of a megawatt of energy of this project is around 1.2 million dollars.

Chile: Minister Tokman commits participation of Chile in creation of International Renewable Energy Agency.

In an important step in the Government's commitment of impelling the development of Non-Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE), the Minister of Energy, Marcelo Tokman, committed the participation of Chile in the creation of an International Renewable Energy Agency – IRENA.

The creation of this International Agency -to which have been invited a great number of countries -, it is an initiative leads for Germany, and has as objective to be a multilateral reference inside the energy environment, generating research, development and installation opportunities of renewable energy in the rest of the world.

"The German government's invitation to be member of this international agency is a recognition to the work that we are carrying out from the Government to promote the Sustainable Energy Development of Chile, through the NCRE support and the energy efficiency promotion", Tokman pointed out.

México: Mexican Nobel sees in climatic change the door to clean development in Latin America.

The Mexican scientist and Nobel of Chemistry 1995 for their research on the ozone layer, Mario Molina, affirmed that the climatic change opens a door to the clean and sustainable development of Latin America.

Molina noticed: "To copy the pattern of development of the rich countries will be an error because it is equal to stain and later clean up".

For this, he highlighted, the first thing is to change the conviction that the climatic change is a problem created by the rich countries that must be solved by them, because “that is only partially true."

"We have to learn from the errors and bet for a development model which at the beginning could be, in economic terms, a little more expensive, but to the long term will be cheaper", he said.
