BRAZIL: Latin America urges more funding for climate change projects

The regional leaders expressed the need for more funding in the frame of Seminar on Climate Financing and Long-Term National Development Planning in Ibero-America that took place in Rio de Janeiro. Latin American countries need increased funding to implement projects to adapt their economies to the fight against climate change.

The Head on climate change in the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), highlighted the progress achieved in addressing environmental issues. By first time it was possible to hear finance ministers talk about climate change and specified that three or four of them said they wanted to develop wind power, but they couldn't because it is expensive and they lack funds.

The meeting "Climate Financing and Long-Term National Development Planning in Ibero-America", organized by the IADB and the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP), brought together about 60 government representatives from 18 Latin American countries in Rio de Janeiro.
