MEXICO: Bimbo plans to use Wind energy in its plants

Bimbo Group plans to use wind energy in its plants, for that which is in approaches with suppliers of this renewable resource, and with this, Bimbo will become the first food company in Mexico in using this clean energy.

The general director of the company, David Servitje, informed that the wind farm that will give them the supply will be developed in the area of “La Ventosa”, Oaxaca that is the second area in the world with the best wind conditions for the operation of this kind of systems.

He added that some options of international supplying companies are being analyzed, although it advanced that it would be a commitment of purchase of the resource for a period of around 20 years.

This measure is part of the actions that Bimbo carries out as part of its commitment with the environment.

CHILE: Iberdrola evaluates wind energy projects for 150 megawatts in Chile.

The Spanish group Iberdrola is evaluating wind energy projects in Chile for around 150 megawatts. Iberdrola leads the generation of this kind of electricity in the world, with an installed capacity that already covers 7.000 megawatts.

Chile is totally in this group’s wind energy plans. Iberdrola is already developing a few topics with some local producers.

With local associates, Iberdrola studies the development of several wind farms, with an initial capacity of 150 megawatts.

Iberdrola’s strategic plan is to increase a tendency that was started time ago, that is the consolidation of the Atlantic axis, due to the excess of inversions in Brazil and Mexico, countries in which they are the main private electricity producer.

Iberdrola is one of the five principal electricity corporations in the world and it is the third in stock capitalization in Europe.

CHILE: BHP Billiton and Pacific Hydro will see the feasibility of Wind energy development in Chile

BHP Billiton, which exploits big copper locations in that part of Chile, looks for to supply with clean and renewable energy part of the requirements of its operations.

The initiative points to the creation of wind farms in the regions of Tarapacá and Antofagasta with a capacity of a hundred megawatts of power. BHP Billiton explodes in the area the mines: “Escondida”, “Spence” and “Cerro Colorado”.

According to the agreement, Pacific Hydro Chile will be in charge for carrying out the study of wind conditions, the engineering, construction and operation of the eventual wind projects, for which is analyzing different areas in those regions.

The agreement specifies that the mining company will have the first option to acquire everything or part of the energy derived of the wind projects that they will build.

Already, both companies are working to locate the best places with wind potential in the north

CUBA: Holguín Wind Farm will save one ton of petroleum per day

By the year 2008, the Gibara Wind Farm will save 1 ton of petroleum to the country daily, and will provide 10 megawatts to the National Energy System.

The final result will improve the development of a cleaner energy production, and the potentials of using this natural resource.

Wind Energy is now a spotlight in the action of a new sustainable program and this province is one of the territories where the wind resource is evaluated for the location of several farms that could generate energy and save hydrocarbons.

Several researches showed that the installable wind energy potential in Holguín, Cuba is almost of two thousand megawatts, and the extractable potential is 555.2 megawatts.

This province currently counts with 36 wind stations and studies the strengths of the wind at different heights.

This country is doing everything that’s in its hands to increase the production of a cleaner and more sustainable energy. The saved resources are destined to the wellness of the people and to the environment protection

CUBA: Gibara Wind Farm in final stage of construction

Just when the tropical storm “Noel” walked away from this region, the builders and investors of Gibara Wind Farm resumed the assembly work, and few days later, the first of six mills was installed.

With generating capacity to 5.1 MW, nearly 40 kilometers north of the city of Holguin, the institution enters the completion of the second of its units and creates conditions to begin the assembly of the third mill.

Next year, a fourth installation with stronger generators will be born, named as Gibara II.

As soon as all six turbines in this wind farm get interconnected to the National Grid, the country will be able to produce already 11.7 megawatts, without spending an ounce of oil.

Gibara’s turbines will generate up to 850 kW per hour as the maximum power.
