PANAMA: Location for WIND EXPO 2009 established.

The Latin American Wind Energy Association, LAWEA; is proud to announce the second version of the Latin American Wind Power Conference and Exhibition WIND EXPO Panama 2009.

Giving continuity to the development of the first version of WIND EXPO held in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico in 2008, and in which the fulfilling of our goal of "Unveiling the Power of Latin America’s Wind” was a success. LAWEA now invites you to join us at Panama City in our WIND EXPO 2009, to continue with our mission, strengthen the Latin American Wind Power business.

MEXICO: LAWEA will have its first workshop at Huatulco, Oaxaca.

LAWEA is going to host its first workshop on March 26 & 27, 2009; about: “Development, Implementation and Operation of Wind Farms in Latin America”. The location for this workshop will be the city of Huatulco, in the Oaxaca state, main pole of the Latin American Wind Power development.

The call for papers for this workshop is alreday open. We are going to receive abstracts until January 16th.

BRAZIL: Spanish company will build a wind tower manufacturer.

It was recently reported that the Spanish company GANOMAGOGA is planning to install a wind tower factory in Pernambuco, with an investment of 30 million Euros. They plan to begin duties by April 2009.

They will manufacture 400 wind towers each year, and it will be built in an area of 15,000 square meters

MEXICO: In Guaymas, Wind Power is being used for supplying energy to the public lighting.

On the past November 19, in Guaymas, Sonora, the Mayor installed the first wind turbine in an avenue of the town, with an investment of 600 thousand Pesos.

The turbine brand is PROVEN and has a capacity of 6KW. It will generate electricity within a radius of 500 meters of where it was installed.

MEXICO: Published a bid for La Rumorosa Wind Farm in Baja California.

In recent days, the international bid for building the wind farm La Rumorosa was issued. The wind farm will have 10 MW, and should be operating by the middle of 2009.

In the first stage, the wind farm will have 4 turbines of 2.5MW each. This plant will be connected to the CFE grid in Mexicali.

ARGENTINE: The government of La Rioja manages funding.

It was reported on last November 18, that the government of La Rioja has initiated procedures for obtaining funding from the Bank of the Argentine Nation; this loan is for the purpose of building a wind farm, which will cost close around 180 million Argentine pesos.

It should be noted that the government will install next year the first wind turbine being built in Mendoza by the company IMPSA, belonging to the group PESCARMONA.

ARGENTINE; The World Bank granted a loan to develop renewable energy.

On Nov. 13 through a press release, the World Bank announced the approval of a loan of $ 50 million to develop a program with the goal of expanding the use of technologies for the supply of renewable energies in rural communities.

It was reported that the loan will be used to develop 15,500 solar energy systems for domestic use, 140 thermal systems and approximately 630 photovoltaic systems that will be used to supply electricity to rural schools.

ARGENTINE: Wind power was used in the final of Davis Tennis Cup.

Sports and the environment were out of hand, because it was for the first time electricity generated by wind turbines used on a tennis court, in Islas Malvinas, for the final of the Davis Cup at Mar de Plata.

The used devices are vertical wind turbines, designed to catch wind from any direction.

COSTA RICA: Construction of the Wind Farm Valle Central is delayed.

Given that foreign companies did not meet the legal requirements, the construction of the wind farm Central Valley has been delayed 2 years, a situation that caused the National Power and Light (CNFL) to repeat the bidding contest in order to determine the company that will be in charge of developing the wind farm.

It should be noted that this farm will be the first plant to be built by CNFL, located in Santa Ana, with an investment of $ 40 million and an installed capacity of 15MW, with 18 wind turbines.

LAWEA wish to apologize to all of those people who were not able to book a place for the conferences in 2008 due to the high demand on attending.

Since it is our aim to encourage the development of wind power in Latin America and the world, we have now uploaded the conference presentations that were given at WIND EXPO 2008 to our websites.

Due to the excellent attendance and quality of the conferences that were held at WIND EXPO 2008, LAWEA opens the opportunity to send your abstracts already, looking forward to build an extraordinary conference program for WIND EXPO 2009.

The main topic will be “Integrating Wind Power into the Latin American Energy Matrix”.
