This new law gives the Ministry of Energy some functions that were currently handle by the Mining and Economy Ministries. It grants an integral structure to the power sector: it fortifies the technical-economic regulatory capacity of the Chilean State and incorporates the National Commission of Energy (CNE) within this new State ministry.

In addition, the Agency of Energy Efficiency is created, which will have the responsibility to extent an annual report to the House of Representatives on the activities that have been financed with public resources.

The Secretary of State affirmed that this law represents the beginning of a period in which strong foundations for energy development are built, allowing the creation of better policies.
