NICARAGUA: Symposium ENERGY CRISIS OF NICARAGUA AND ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION
The National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN - León), in conjunction with the Nicaraguan Council of Science and Technology (CONICYT) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), organized the symposium on "Energy Crisis in Nicaragua and Alternatives Solution ".
This event was held on November 15 of this year, at the Hotel El Convento in the city of Leon and was involvement of Dr. Rigoberto Sampson Granera, rector of the UNAN-Leon; Eng. Emilio Rappaccioli, minister of energy and mines; Dr. David Perez, coordinator of the Department of Energy's Latin American Program of Science and Technology for Development, among other specialists from Brazil, Cuba and Nicaragua.
It presented several aspects of the energy crisis that is being experienced by Nicaragua, due to the high dependence on oil (90% of current energy system operates on the basis of fossil fuels) and the high prices, this situation led to a return the most acute shortage in electricity generation, which requires the immediate search for alternative solutions to avoid collapse in the national economy.
Representatives of some companies and national institutions, presented the work they have done in the active development of alternative sources of energy, to give energy solutions are viable and environmentally friendly.
With the completion of the event, stressed on two important aspects:
1- To promote higher levels of collaboration and synergy between government institutions, municipalities, universities, companies, NGOs and external cooperation.
2- Giving a strong impetus to the creation of a National Network of Energy in Nicaragua, this could form part of the Ibero-American Network of Science and Technology. This would allow greater access for the development of alternative energies.
