BRAZIL: New wind farm Paracuru in operation.

 

A North American company invested 1 billion of reales for the construction of 5 wind farms. The first one was inaugurated last Thursday 4th of December, by the company SIIF ENERGIES, in Paracuru, 90 km away from Fortaleza at the state of Ceará; and the country will receive the remaining ones until the next year 2009.

The wind farm Paracuru has an installed power of 23.4 MW, generated by 12 Suzlon model S88 turbines, and an investment of 115 million reals.

The rest of the wind farms will be installed in Beberibe, Amontaba and Comocim. Together, they will have an installed capacity of 207 MW.

Besides the farms in Ceará, SIIF will inaugurate the wind farm “Quintilha Machado” before December 2009 in Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro State, with a capacity of 135 MW.

It should be noted that the development of these parks are part of the Program of Incentive to the Alternative Sources of Electric Power (PROINFA), which pays almost 70% of the project, while the remaining 30% is distributed among American companies CITI GROUP, BLACK RIVER ASSET and LIBERTY MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY.
