News MEXICO; The wind project of Tehuantepec Isthmus expects to be the most important in Latin America.
The wind project that will be located in the region of the Istmo, hopes to raise Mexico by 2012, among the top 10 countries worldwide in power generation through wind energy, so that the Director of Strategic Projects of the Economy Secretary of Oaxaca, considered that it is the biggest in Latin America of renewable energy, both for investment and by the saving of gas emissions. The wind power project will be installed in an area of 20 thousand hectares of land, though more than half of those acres are currently inactive due to government neglect of rural and agricultural development, and it is there where towers are installed to measure wind , while in la Ventosa and La Venta are already 200 turbines. The project envisages the construction of 9 wind farms until 2012; these farms are made through the scheme of self-slaughter, to generate about 2000 MW and attract an investment of about $ 6 billion dollars. On the other hand, it was reported that this project will generate an income of $ 500 million dollars of taxes for the country, resources to be used for the betterment of life of communities and the landowners where the farms of the project are installed. It should be noted that this project is 14 years old, since it began in 1994 when it was settled in La Ventosa, the first wind farm of the country, owned by the CFE, which generates 1.5 MW. It was mentioned that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) in addition to building the wind farm La Venta II, also will install the wind farms of La Venta III and Oaxaca I, II, III and IV which will generate up to 600 MW. Additionally, this year the company ACCIONA and his partner CEMEX stopped the construction of the wind farm EURUS, located in Venta II; however, work will be restarted in next days.
